University Application So Far

Tomorrow is the start of my last term at college and I am very focused on getting all of my work done. I am doing my best to get a DDD (triple distinction) in my photography class, so I am always busy doing something!

I also have thought about University and plan to apply at The Arts Institute at Bournemouth. My personal statement has been written and I have chosen a few images for my portfolio.

What I plan to do next is to find some film images and print those for my portfolio and also to find any experimental work that would be useful so that I can show I am capable in all aspects of Photography.

I need to write out a plan of all the things that need doing so that I can get them all done when they are needed for. So much to do, but at least I have started early and I have plenty of time to get everything done :]

Today I'm going to concentrate on getting my 'before and after Photoshop' sketchbook completed, I just need to pritt stick all the pictures in and write about them. That will be my retouching side of photography covered. I also need to scan in the images I took with my Instant Camera to show I have used different types of cameras. I have some colour film images that also need to be included in my work somewhere.

When I get back to college I will need to start printing my images as soon as possible because there is usually something wrong with the printers at least once a week and I would like to get the important stuff done first.

Hopefully everything for Uni will be sorted in time so that I have the last few weeks of college to revsie for my Business exam and to finish any coursework for photography tothe highest standard possible. I will have to not do any photography stuff out of college until I have all of my work done. Otherwise, there will be too much to do and I will probably run out of time. I also have my final major piece to worry about but I have an idea for what I'm going to do so I should be OK with that.

Here's an image I have found to be quite popular on Flickr.

That's the end of today's post. Thanks for reading!

Busy Holidays

Lately I have been busy visiting relatives over the holiday period. I managed to buy presents for most of my family members this year, which is an achievement for me!

For christmas I got 'The Photo Book' from my Aunt and it is wonderful! It lists many different photographers and a picture of theirs and will be super helpful with my photography work.

I finally finished writing my personal statement for The Arts Institute at Bournemouth today and am planning on applying through UCAS as soon as I get back to college. I have decided if I don't get into Bournemouth then I'm going to set up my own photographic business instead and work in Bournemouth.

Lately, I have been working on my photoshopping skills and have been bulking up my portfolio of work which I will need to print when I get back to college. Busy, busy, busy. Hopefully I will be able to afford the cost of printing my best images for my portfolio, otherwise I will have to print on standard matte paper and wont have the best quality for my work.

Using flickr.com I have uploaded some of my images to the internet hoping for constructive critism and feedback. If you would like to see them then please copy and paste this link or click it if you can; www.flickr.com/gemmiev

At some point in the future I have decided to do some volunteer work in another country, either working with children from uganda or doing conservation work for a month or two. I would love to be able to document my time there and have some images of another culture. Hopefully, I will be able to teach in another country and make a difference to people who are not as lucky as I am.

Here are a few images I have been working on;

This was created using two images in Photoshop, I experimented with overlaying the layers and changing the blending options.

I play on photoshop for hours to get the right effect and its not unusual for me to edit the same image four times before I find an effect I am happy with.

This is one of my favourite images.

I really love the colours in this image and the highlights on the eye. I like the writing on the t-shirt because it helps show the girls interests.

I have made some new year resolutions which I am determined to stick to, these include; 50 sit ups a day, eating more fruit and taking/creating one new image a day :]

I am going to end here because I'm watching jurassic park and it's distracting me :P

Internet Returns!

I finally got the internet back! I also had a photoshoot today in which I modelled for the photographer Graham Sessions http://www.modelmayhem.com/577142

We included my dog in a couple images and I will post it in a second.

I have only edited a couple images so far, here they are:

The second Image is made of 6 images put together and edited on photoshop to get the desired effect.

It took me about half an hour to edit this image, which I don't think is too bad seeing as I have done lots to complete it.

I was surfing the internet late last night and I found a very cool website which allows you to upload and download brushes which can be used in photoshop. The brushes are very cool and allow you to create interesting designs on and as images.
I have alot of coursework to be getting on with, so I must not spend too much time on my blog tonight.

A busy half term

I have been all over the place for this last week. I went to Plymouth at the first weekend to see my boyfriend linas.

Isn't he a cutey :P

After Plymouth I went to Bournemouth with my friend Chelsea to see my Dad and to go to The Arts Institute at Bournemouth for an open day so I can apply there for next year.
After that, I came home for all of three hours, and then left for North Devon to go to Ruta's House, where I met again with Linas.

I went out for the day with Ruta on the Friday and we went to Valley of the Rocks at Lynton. Here is one of the photographs from there.

This was taken looking down the valley, I like this one because of the composition and the colours :D

Here is another image I took which is a little more 'arty'

I spent the rest of my week photographing Linas' brother Romas and his band. We went to a beach so that we could use a boat I have photographed before that the boys liked. So I thought I'd show you some beach and band photos.

It was quite hard to photograph them because they would often look away from the camera or pull a silly face, or their hair would fly infront of their faces because of the wind. However they did try hard and I'm glad they listened to me!

This is the first picture I have edited out of all of the group pictures and I may post some more later on.
Now for some beach photos.

This is an image straight from the camera, I haven't edited it at all. I really love all the textures in rock and I spent a few minutes photographing this one.

Two last beach picture and I must go to sleep!

This next one was fun :P

Spot the difference :P
I must go to bed now.
